SIR – Chief Superintendent Jane Horwood, in her Worcester News column (December 5), assures the public that over the Christmas period there will be high-visibility patrols in city and residential areas dealing with those who act irresponsibly and cause annoyance. They will be finding out public ‘issues’ of concern and tackling them.

Does she not realise that policing is a year-round responsibility and not just a seasonal one?

Can she tell us where all these Christmas officers have been hiding for the rest of the year?

If they had been where they were supposed to have been – policing the streets – they would already know about the public’s “issues” and would have been in a position to nip them in the bud at the outset.

Surely, that is what policing is all about.
