SIR – Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced that £12 billion “efficiency savings” – cuts – are to be made to public services. How dare the Government spend billions of pounds on bailing out the banks with our money and then attack our jobs.

It’s a disgrace that public sector workers are expected to pay the price through cuts in jobs, pay and conditions.

The proposed cuts will be in the very services that are needed now more than ever, as the recession turns our lives upside down.
