SIR – Regarding “Match my vow to refund £20,000” (Tuesday, December 1).
I would like to take up the challenge by Independent candidate Andrew Christian- Brookes, as he rightly says many people within Worcester are struggling to make ends meet.
I have always been of the view that the expenses given to MPs are far too extravagant and need to be curbed.
I will be standing in Mid-Worcestershire at the next election for the UKIP. I would gladly live on £40,000 if elected and donate at least £20,000 per year, if I were elected for the next five years, to the Army Benevolent Fund for the widows and orphans.
This would give them a grand total of £100,000 over the five years.
I would halve the five-yearly expenses and give half to any other charities, and allow the people of Mid-Worcestershire to vote, through your newspaper, where they would like the monies from the other half of the expenses to go to.
I would pay my rent – yes rent, as I live in a council-owned property – out of the said salary, and the other half of my expenses would go on travelling to Westminster by train or car. Accommodation is no problem.
All my receipts could be scrutinised by the editor of the Worcester News, and the department of accountancy within the parliamentary laws.
The main issue is getting Britain out of the mess we are in due to three weak parties who only seem to think of themselves. m
John White,
Parliamentary candidate Mid-Worcestershire UKIP.
