SIR – One gets used to walking along the pavement and hearing a voice from behind. On turning, who should it be but a mobile user.
One enters a shop to hear yet another one giving whereabouts and next port of call.
Even in a cafe there’s no peace. Just as one goes to sip one’s coffee, a phone rings on the next table.
So, it was nice to read that Lily Halpin’s serious fall outside M&S in the Shambles was averted by a woman offering her mobile phone to call for an ambulance. With her goodwill, assistance from onlookers, M&S staff and the ambulance crew Lily would agree that mobile phones do have their uses.
