SIR – I write concerning firstly the impromptu fireworks display the people surrounding the University of Worcester’s St John’s campus had at 4.30am on Tuesday, November 24.
Your story in the following day’s Worcester News underestimated the firework that was set off. It was a volley of air bomb repeaters which would have complemented any firework display on November 5, but not at 4.30am!
The university has placed the blame outside the campus. Well, unfortunately, we were woken up at 4am by the sound of students returning home after the usual Monday student night out in Worcester. Then the fireworks started and were set off within the Ankerdine residencies in the campus. This I could see from my home.
Obviously no students would be in possession of fireworks as they had been let off. Why can’t the university just admit that someone within the campus let the fireworks off and apologise to the local community who work to provide funding for these young, hard-working people.
Secondly, regarding a court story in the same night’s paper about a drunken student.
Please can these young students have consideration for local residents and, as ambassadors for the university, enjoy themselves and learn. Then we would all be much happier.
