SIR – I cannot believe that I have just read that taxi drivers want to have CCTV cameras installed in their vehicles.
I personally do not have a problem with these cameras being installed in a taxi, but it beggars belief that taxi owners and drivers expect the city council to pay for this facility.
All types of businesses across the city have security problems and install cctv systems at their own expense to protect their business and staff alike.
Also, may I ask why taxis in the city are not fitted with card facilities, so that fares may be paid for with credit or debit cards.
The taxi companies and drivers must be the only businesses that are still cash only.
