SIR – I read with interest the letters concerning university parking. The best course of action would be for the university to build a very large multi-storey car park on its Oldbury Road site.
The money raised in parking charges would, over time, easily pay for this. The construction could be put out to contract and that company could run it for so many years. All students would have to use it and bus to other sites within the city.
In the meantime, all on-street parking within two miles of university sites should be residents-only. Residents would be issued with tickets to place on their or visitors’ vehicles.
Of course, parking would not be an issue if common sense had prevailed and the university, together with the technical college and sixth form, had been put on a site outside the city limits.
