SIR – To read some of the letters in your columns one might imagine we are locked into the European Union with no chance of escape. So you might be surprised to read article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty which says: “Any member state may decide to withdraw from the union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.”

It’s funny then that the supposedly eurosceptic press fought “Lisbon” tooth and nail. Why? As good old Stanley Parr suggests, there’s more to this than meets the eye.
