SIR – The headline about the council not being able to afford the 20mph zone around schools made me wonder why. They could afford to waste cash on a crossing on London Road people are not using.
My sympathy to the girl who got knocked down but before that there was a young woman knocked down on the other side by a car turning left illegally.
In the last fortnight I have witnessed an adult with a young child leaving Red Hill Primary. He was telling the child to stop messing about as it was a busy road. Why didn’t he use the crossing? He was parked at Tescos and thought this was quicker. Not if they had been hit.
Another time, a young woman with a double buggy walked down London Road past the crossings. She crossed the road to go to the nursery.
These are not the only ones that I have seen. Children from Blessed Edward’s very often cross the road while the cars have right of way.
