SIR – Despite what David Cameron says, I see no reason why a future British government cannot get us out of the Lisbon Treaty.
It was signed by an unelected prime minister on behalf of a previous despised prime minister without the authority of the electorate.
I believe Gordon Brown and Tony Blair did a deal. Blair said to Brown: “You want to be prime minister?
“I will resign and give you the job if you don’t stand in my way of being EU president.”
This would not have been possible if we were allowed a referendum.
