SIR – The Government has been accused by MPs of showing a “real lack of concern” for people affected by its programme of 2,500 post office closures.

The Commons public accounts committee chairman said: “The consultation process appeared to the public as little more than a piece of window dressing for a decision which to all intents and purposes had already been taken.” Indeed, weren’t similar comments made recently regarding the potential closure of post offices in the local area? The closure of post offices is a great example of the Government’s contempt for the people it is meant to serve and its slavish prioritisation of profit.
