Sir – I write after reading the letter published recently ‘students behaviour can be so tiresome’.
I have been a resident of Worcester for more than 48 years now and I love the city. For the last 20 years I have lived in St John’s. It used to be the posh part of the city and, having nearly paid my mortgage off, I have ploughed a lot of money into my home ready for a well-deserved retirement.
The last few years have brought all this to an abrupt halt.
I now live in an area dominated by student houses. Himbleton Road, which I live in, was the residence of retired folk, working families and young children. It is now used as a rat run, with traffic twisting in and out of cars parked by staff and students forced out by new parking restrictions.
Not a day goes past without people parking and the owners scampering off to the university to avoid residents remarking on their ill-mannered action.
I could not sell my house now without seriously reducing the price and for probable student accommodation. The council had no foresight in their authorising plans apart from filling their coffers from university revenue. They have failed dismally.
