SIR – Andrew Gardner’s assertion that the UK could not survive outside the EU is precisely what the EU wants us to think.
They’ve certainly succeeded where Mr Gardner is concerned.
How exactly would the UK governing itself once more be political disaster?
Would the other EU countries attack us if we left? Would we be so useless at making our own laws once more that we’d govern ourselves into oblivion ?
How exactly would we suffer economic annihilation if we became independent again? Would nobody trade with us? Utter drivel.
I’ve just returned from a visit to the US where income tax is 10 per cent and petrol $3 a gallon. Here, if you earn £35,000 a year, income tax is 40 per cent plus a further 11 per cent National Insurance and petrol is $9 a gallon, yet we can still afford to contribute millions to Brussels.
The British people are being dumped on from a very great height by the EU, and what are we soon to get in return? An unelected EU president. We really must be mad.
