SIR – I was horrified to hear of the death of five British soldiers, killed by the same Afghan National Police Force we are supposedly in alliance with. This follows the realisation that the Afghan ‘elections’ were an exercise in corruption, nothing to do with democracy.
Just as the politicians lied about the war in Iraq, they are lying about the basis of the war in Afghanistan.
Our troops are dying in an unwinnable war which has no other purpose than to save the reputation of politicians like Brown and Cameron who slavishly follow the dictates of US foreign policy, even when it’s obvious that the world’s second poorest country is no threat to British interests. The blood of these five soldiers is on the hands of Brown and Cameron.
I salute the courage of Lance Corporal Joe Glenton, who was threatened with a court martial if he spoke out against the war.
There are at least five lads from Bromsgrove in Afghanistan. If they decide to follow the lead of Joe Glenton and refuse to obey the orders of Brown and Cameron then I for one will back them in their stand and I feel sure that many Bromsgrovians will join me in supporting such a stand by our boys.
