SIR – In 1995 I gained a degree at Worcester College of Higher Education, as the university was known.
It was something I never thought I was capable of doing and I was so glad I could attend a graduation ball where I could let my hair down after three years of hard work.
We paid £25 to see Jools Holland and it was a great night. How sad the graduates of 2009 will not be able to celebrate in the same way. How sad the Students’ Union couldn’t find a way to mark what the graduates have achieved. Perhaps a scaled-down version could have been organised? Local businesses could have contributed, especially as graduates may become their employees.
One solution would be for a Worcester nightclub to create an evening just for 2009 graduates. Perhaps tickets could be sold, with some proceeds going to charity?
Surely someone could come up with something to allow the graduates to round off their time at the university in a fitting and celebratory way.
