SIR – I share Mr Candon’s annoyance at the thoughtless people who park their cars wholly or partially on the pavements around the University of Worcester.
Having lived in Oldbury Road for 34 years and watched the parking problem get steadily worse, I was amused to read that West Mercia Police “cannot solve this overnight”. I beg to differ. We do not require an expensive review by the county council, or pleas from the police to frustrated residents to be “supportive and patient”.
All we require are the services of one traffic warden for one morning to issue a ticket to every car parked wholly or partially on the pavement (see Section 218 of the Highway Code). The people who park in this way do it day after day and one ticket would be enough to remind them that their thoughtless and selfish actions cause real problems to pedestrians.
