SIR – Over the years Tesco has told us in its adverts how it looks after its customers, from the “We will open another checkout until all are open to prevent queues” to “Every little helps”.
In my local Tesco Express, two self-service tills have been introduced – which I refuse to use on the grounds that jobs will be lost through them – leaving just three manned tills.
When I visited recently, a customer commented on the long queue and only one person on the tills. The lady on the till said you have the choice of using the self-service or waiting in the queue.
I decided to exercise my third option and replaced my goods on the shelves and cycled the mile to the independent shop where a very pleasant young lady served me. Tesco beware!
