SIR – Who is Mike Foster trying to kid?
He tries to make out that only by voting Labour will we avoid cuts in the public sector such as those George Osbourne outlined at the Tory Party conference.
However, it is a Labour Government which is currently presiding over the current cuts in public spending: £45 million at the county council, £24 million in the local NHS, a projected 10 per cent off district and city council budgets not to mention the continued attacks on the jobs of benefit workers in the civil service.
All these will mean redundancies and fewer job opportunities which will not ease the plight of the one million unemployed youth in Britain.
Yes, it is true that our spineless county councillors – Tory, Labour and Lib Dem – have no will to fight for the money back and just pass the cuts from central government onto us, but it is New Labour who are ultimately wielding the axe over the public sector.
We need a new fighting alternative to the big three parties that won’t put big business and the fat cat bankers first.
We need one that will start representing the working class again now that Labour has just become a pale version of the Tories and Mike Foster indistinguishable from Sir Michael Spicer on policy.
