SIR – Regarding the conversion of John Buckley.
My, how the rats are deserting the sinking ship. Labour has been reduced by Worcestershire’s voters to a paltry three on the county council and lost even the leader of the opposition, the title Mr Buckley once held.
Mr Buckley seems to have been feeling unwanted after a spat with his MP and the voters’ thumbs-down to him as a suddenly revealed “independent”.
So he has tried to clamber back on what he takes to be a left of centre agenda and, failing any serious alternative in Worcester itself but the dreaded Conservatives, he has come out in support of the Lib Dem candidate for West Worcestershire.
That makes two of them then, who are so insufficiently dedicated to the constituency as not to live in it.
The voters will not be fooled at the next general election. They have decisively rejected Labour this year locally and the Lib Dems, lacking any coherent policies as usual, have not made any real progress in the opinion polls since nice Mr Kennedy (remember him?) was deposed two leaders ago.
COUN C R Cheeseman,
Malvern Wells.
