SIR – The Worcester News was too easy on the callcentre responsible for leaving two pensioners stranded in a lift while giggling audibly all the way down the line from Lancashire, or wherever it was. You state in your editorial that it is understandable these days for services to be run by remote call-centres. Well, so it is, but an emergency service is not quite the same animal as a furnituresupplier who makes you wait in from 8am to 6pm to deliver your new sofa.

Farming emergency services out to call centres is wrong. Your supine acceptance of the practice will end up with Worcester’s 999 services being handled from Middlesbrough or Mumbai.
