SIR – Like most of us, I take great care in recycling my used glass and plastics.

They are meticulously put in the correct bins and bags.

Our regular refuse collectors are very efficient and pleasant with it, so imagine my anger when a different gang turned up this morning and slung all the carefully sorted plastic bags in our road in with all the black bags!

Why do we bother? It all goes to landfill in China anyway, as we don’t appear to have the correct facilities in this country to even sort basic yoghurt pots from empty sauce containers – all with the recycling logo stamped on the base!

What happened to our greatly admired Edwardian engineering capabilities and ability to invent things?

It’s not progress – we’re going backwards and downhill rapidly!
