SIR – In reply to the two letters from D E Margrett, I would like to point out I never said: “Those who need help with extra money should not get it.”

A lot of pensioners are doing very well and a lot more are not. Give extra to those who are not, not those who don’t need it.

I do rejoice that many benefit from travel, fuel and recreational concessions. I don’t rejoice knowing those who are rich still get the same concessions as those who are poor.

I also know hospitals are places where people go when they are ill but I don’t expect people who go in for a simple operation to die because they are contaminated by something they caught during their stay in hospital.

Come on, Mr Margrett, I am on your side. Take time to read my letters properly next time.

J L REYNOLDS, Worcester.
