SIR – Isn’t it time for an moratorium on political and economic twaddle talking while we face facts about the global meltdown going on around us?

It’s not the time to go on kidding ourselves that the UK is an independent nation or that there’s a range of political and economic choices for us at the ballot box.

No amount of media spin can obscure the simple fact that we are in something worryingly similar to the 1929 Wall Street Crash.

Perhaps in better times we could be excused all the old standbys about our national woes being the fault of Thatcherism or New Labour or Brussels or socialism/communism – but surely all that political banter is just inadequate to explain and deal with the situation facing us today?

There’s only one political and economic suspect left in this global murder mystery, folks, and it isn’t the EU or Iran or China or our pretence of a nation state here in the the UK.

Let’s put aside party politics and deal with the world as it really is for a change.
