SIR – Having little if any confidence in politicians, the debacle over the Post Office card account exposes yet another game of politics. The main player in this instance being Peter Mandelson, whose longstanding wish is for the Post Office to be privatised.
The uncertainty created by political dithering and games, possibly led to some local post masters and mistresses jumping for retirement before they were pushed.
Now the Post Office card account is established, why not allow our post offices to compete fairly with Pay Point and others.
Also return the other services taken away from the local post offices such as TV licensing, water cards and council tax payments and allow a post office banking system, that would probably be more accountable than those we have seen over the past six months or so.
We trust our post offices but do we still have the same trust in the High Street banking system?
