SIR – The traffic junction next to the Citroen garage in St John’s worked. It allowed a relief route for westbound traffic using the left filter at the lights in St John’s. It gave some parking for in/out shoppers and parents at the school opposite. Unless there were roadworks, there was never any problem there.
Most of all, it allowed casual shoppers from nearby villages and those coming home from work to stop and shop easily in St John’s and get away quickly.
Why on earth is it necessary to spend my council tax installing traffic lights there?
In order to service the new Sainsbury’s, St John’s will be gummed up. It will be like the Ketch with lights. I have already told the shopkeepers that I will have to shop in Malvern in future since I do not wish to fight through the lights when it is simpler to shop at Morrisons in Newland or in the Link.
Would not a miniroundabout there and a clockwise one-way system involving Bransford Road, Watery Lane, Bromyard Road and St John’s – and doing away with all the traffic lights except for the pelican crossings – be much better?
