SIR – Well, it has been an interesting ride, but I did not expect that I would have to spell out the (obvious) point of the exercise in the way so clearly required by Derek Baddeley and A Pennell (November 22).
I asked whether leading politicians who support membership of the EU are treacherous, traitorous, pig-ignorant of the facts, or simply ‘gravy-train’ personal-career-minded (that is, putting self before country). Nobody has been able to provide a credible answer, instead indulging in obfuscation and irrelevance.
So my point always was: if you can’t put up a sound case – with evidence – for why the motivations of those, across the mainstream political spectrum whom we all pay to be “in the know” and to take decisions on our behalf, are corrupt or incompetent, should not the anti-EU brigade reconsider its opposition?
That’s all.
DAVID BARLOW,
Worcester.
