SIR – Much as I applaud the move to involve young children in developing awareness of bullying and its destructive characteristics, I was greatly saddened to see the photograph in Worcester News (Wednesday, November 19) in which pupils from Gorse Hill Primary School were shown spreading their message by the indiscriminate releasing of a large number of balloons.

For several years now, nature conservationists have been pleading with us not to release balloons as they are incredibly damaging to wildlife. One example of this is sea creatures and other water fowl that see fragments of much-travelled balloons as edible weed. I do not need to describe the resulting damage.

Please, Gorse Hill School, a quick lesson on caring for our rapidly disappearing wildlife is now necessary.

JANET JARVIS,

Worcester.
