SIR – I refer to the letter that was printed on November 18, ‘Concern over the effects of articles’, when it appears that the spokesperson for the community safety partnership is trying to control what the readers of the Worcester News are allowed to see or how the editor of the paper prints the story.
Launa Walker, when complaining about two stories printed in the Worcester News, could be accused of trying to manipulate the press so as to assist her crime statistic in her role as programme manager for the community safety partnership.
I think the Worcester News carries out its responsibilities well and produces its daily paper with stories that are a fair coverage of what goes on in Worcester and beyond. I, like many thousands of residents, purchase the paper so I can read about the good deed stories, including understanding the hard work that people like Launa undertakes for the community.
However, it is the responsibility of all good papers to properly cover those events that expose the bad side of society. I believe that there are many examples where injustices have been rectified due to the Worcester News exposing the issues so elected members and people like Launa suddenly put more effort into resolving the problems.
JOHN BUCKLEY,
Worcester.
