SIR – I remember David Barlow as a sound old Labour man.

He asks why all the major political parties support the EU? Do they, and more appropriately, do individual MPs?

It is well known that there is excessive waste, not least while MEPs travel between Brussels and Strasbourg, that they claim first-class travel costs while travelling second class, that MEPs have resisted their expenses being in the public domain, the CAP and CFP are disadvantageous to UK but Germany and France want no change, and that EU documents insist that our public services are privatised.

Many MPs across the parties do not support the EU and demonstrate as much in their voting habits. Increasing numbers now support withdrawal.

In specialist journals it is reported that increasing numbers of EU citizens regret being members of the EU but this is rarely reported in our press. Only the Lib Dems remain Europhile.
