SIR – About a month ago the EU parliament, contrary to the wishes of UK businesses, imposed very strict rules and regulations on the employment of temporary workers which will ensure that as unemployment rises businesses will be unwilling to employ temps, let alone full-time staff. This affects us disproportionately since we have more people working as temps than any other EU country.
Conservative MEPs supported this decision.
Now an EU parliamentary committee, with the full support of the Labour MEPs present, has voted to end sooner rather than later the opt-out which our Government had agreed with the EU to allow people to earn extra overtime. This is even contrary to the views of our Labour Government which has replied that the opt-out is “essential to Britain’s labour market flexibility” and “people must remain free to earn overtime if they wish and businesses must have the flexibility to cope during busy times”.
Sadly most MEPs live in their protected Brussels bubble with their guaranteed pensions and big salaries. It is a good job we have UKIP MEPs who do their best to fight for UK citizens in opposing the EU in its efforts to destroy the UK economy.

Leigh Sinton.
