SIR – In a recent letter I remarked about the Government forcing Worcester to build more houses and then said Government should fund the building of infrastructure before a brick is laid. Sewage works should be made a priority.
I cannot but observe in Mike Grundy’s weekly nostalgia article on Saturday that 100 years ago the residents of Lower Wick complained of severe smells that were apparently caused by pipes being blocked so that the sewage was being discharged straight into the river! Fifty years ago it was reported that the works were being extended due to overloading. Another 50 years on it seems we are due to suffer again unless these works are enlarged once more.
So I say again, for the benefit of MPs and councillors, infrastructure first before a brick is laid.
It seems sensible to me, like trying to keep the post offices, but then I’m only a mere prole and those in lofty offices earning £150,000 plus a year ignore the opinion of us lowly mortals and pensioners.
What’s the noise? I think it is the distant sound of tumbrels being shunted!
W J MEADOWS,
Worcester.
