SIR – After the last local election the Labour party promised to listen.
Well, with a million plus petition and health service providers against polyclinics (spinned as GP led health centres) they have shown how much they listen by riding rough over people’s concerns and pressing ahead.
The Worcester News gave quotes from Labour councillors who intimated that it was for the 2,000 plus students nearby. If people believe they can go in and see a doctor during their lunch break without an appointment and without a long wait they are mistaken.
A parliamentary Early Day Motion (EDM1465) identified a host of private companies waiting to run these clinics – the first steps towards he death of the NHS. It also identified concerns about the cost of building these clinics – a 25 year lease is chaining the NHS to a long-term potential white elephant.
By centralising services it will lead to job losses.
Admin staff and cleaners will be shed. Those who will be hard pushed to find a new job, and you would have thought best represented by Labour and the unions, will be the hardest hit.
M SWIERS,
Worcester.
