SIR – Many pensioners, particularly widows who live on far less than £105 per week, will be alarmed to read that Worcestershire’s £170,000 a year or £3,269 per week chief executive wants more money should she take on additional work.
However, if she is presently fully employed how can she take on additional work?
Many would see it as an achievement to fill the shoes of Worcester City’s David Wareing – an excellent chief executive who will be sadly missed – let alone merge his job.
Trish Haines’ interesting defence of public servants’ high salaries – she said managers are a lot more focused and better value for money – could well be the reason why savings or cuts are being made, such as taking away the subsidies towards the freshly prepared and cooked meals for our most vulnerable pensioners in extra care sheltered housing schemes.
So starve the most vulnerable pensioners yet pay the high-ranking public servants more?
