SIR – In response to the recent letter to the editor from Bernard Mew (October 21), may I say that despite his ill-informed criticism the City Life magazine is a success story.
While advertising does not yet fully cover the publication and distribution costs, we have used this publication to carry a great deal of information and material that would have otherwise required separate advertising or column inches in commercial publications. This would have been expensive. In fact, it was expensive before we had City Life and as a result of this we have made considerable savings.
It is also our aim to develop income over time to fully cover all expenditure.
He says that I glorify in its content and the fact that it is a good news story.
Well he’s absolutely right there and if he thinks he can help us improve City Life then I welcome that and suggest he makes contact with our publicity manager, who will be pleased to hear his positive ideas.
COUNCILLOR ROGER KNIGHT, Cabinet member for performance, innovation and efficiency.
