SIR – I refer to the article in the Worcester News on the subject of carbon emission and I have to say the following.

Please do not ask me to reduce my individual nano grain of emission. Speak to those who flew the Olympic flame around the world or those who run motor racing in its many guises.

Motor sport in particular is an enormous user of non-renewable resources in that the machinery is moved to and from events by lorry or plane.

The testing and racing are then undertaken followed by the return to base by lorry and plane.

What is the real cost to the environment of the these world’s events in one year? Has it ever been measured? As I said, do not ask me unless I am well down the real list of polluters!

JOHN W PEDLEY,

Worcester.
