SIR – Regarding the proposed relocation of Worcester City Football Club, I understand that the club is about to submit planning proposals for their proposed move to Nunnery Way.
As a member of the local residents’ association our view is, and has always been, that we support the club’s proposed move but only if it complies with the provisions of the local plan.
One of the stumbling blocks for the club has always been the question of acceptable enabling development and clause 10.116 and policy CLT323 sets out the requirements and makes it quite clear that ancillary developments of a nonretail sports/leisure nature would be acceptable provided that these are encompassed within the stadium complex itself.
It is important that the club and its advisers take this into account, as otherwise, the proposals will constitute a departure from the local plan and even if passed by the city council may be called in by the office of the deputy Prime Minister.
We would then be back to square one with another B&Q scenario and the ensuing public inquiry.
T JONES, Worcester.
