SIR – I was speechless but now I’ve lost my voice. Two of your reporters and your comment on October 13, have made me lose any confidence I had in the planning system. I reiterate the comments I made in my September letter.

My family lived in Lavender Road and Tower Road for 47 years and flooding in Waterworks Road was common place.

The area was considered part of the flood plain. Mr Justin Burnett from the Environment Agency says there is a medium probability of flooding between one in 100 and one in 1,000. Not much peace of mind for house purchasers trying to get building insurance.

Mr Burnett also says that when the present hard standing concrete is replaced by grass and friable surfaces, more water will drain. That may be so but only so much will be absorbed by the ground and with some of the torrential rain we have had of late the ground can soon get waterlogged.

I feel more notice should be taken of global warming and not risk more houses in Waterworks Road.

PHIL PEGLER, Worcester.
