SIR – I attended the Julian Lloyd Webber/Elgar School of Music Masterclass at Huntingdon Hall (October 7) and find it difficult to reconcile my enjoyment of it with the review.
The ‘timidity’ of the students was surely down to nerves. If you were a 13- year-old cello student playing to one of the most famous cellists on the planet in front of a full hall, your initial intonation might also be ‘questionable’.
Once they had relaxed, each of the students showed their potential.
I found it strange that the review found space for a paragraph about the dress code but made no mention of Julian Lloyd Webber’s own performance or his excellent accompanist, Janine Smith.
PETER SHEERAN,
Worcester.
