SIR – Hats off to First for the idea of splitting the 33 bus route and introducing the 30 to run between Dines Green and the bus station only. Brilliant idea! Less chance of delays and cancellations. Or so you might think.
Of course, there are going to be occasional delays even on this relatively short route. However, even allowing for this I had to wait, with other wouldbe passengers, 35 minutes at midday on October 9 at the bus station for a No 30 bus to Dines Green.
During this time one No 30 bus with Dines Green on the indicator drove through the bus station without stopping and turned right. When a second No 30 arrived it was joined by another (presumably the one that had turned right) which stopped alongside completely blocking the passage through.
Before permitting the long-suffering and now increased queue of passengers to board all doors remained shut while the two drivers embarked on a lengthy discussion as to who should leave first – causing further delay.
Just prior to leaving an elderly gentleman tried to board the bus. The driver refused to let him on saying he had the wrong type of pass, waving aside his explanation that he was waiting for a new one to arrive and that the one he had produced had not yet expired anyway.
There is still something basically wrong with First’s service and the surly attitude of a number of their drivers. There are some who are extremely helpful and considerate, I hasten to add, but they are few and far between.
