SIR – The reported spat between Mike Foster and Robin Walker (October 1) over Tory campaign spending in Worcester shows that something stinks in British politics.

When overseas bankers can exploit central American tax havens to shovel cash into marginal seats such as Worcester the smell starts to become disgusting.

The same smell was evident at the Tory Party conference. George Osborne stood on the stage calling for reform of City trading practices while at the same time his party had profited from the collapse of banks like Bradford and Bingley.

As the press revealed, his office and other party activities have been funded to the tune of £665,000 by one of the hedge funds that made huge profits from speculating in Bradford and Bingley shares.

And there is more just locally. The Conservative candidate for West Worcestershire, Harriett Baldwin, before she decided she wanted to become a politician, spent 20 years as a City fund manager dealing in currencies, or to put it another way, profiting by their rise and fall.

Ordinary voters in Worcestershire will recognise the smell of Tory hypocrisy and reject it whenever they get the chance.
