SIR – I have recently been visiting friends in Worcester after many years in France.

Imagine my delight when we drove down Bath Road to see that the Royal Worcester Factory was being rebuilt. I felt happy that it would still be in the same area and would still be employing local craftsmen and women.

However, my joy didn’t last very long as I discovered that these factory buildings were intended as apartment blocks.

How is it possible for the planners of a county town to allow this kind of building to be put up within view of a very beautiful cathedral?

After my initial shock we visited the site and I was even more horrified.

The apartments are all very small and the majority would be called studios in France.

Not only are the apartments cramped but the public space on the site is minimal.

This area will surely be a future slum rather than the prestige town centre development that it should have been.

ANNABEL MARTIN,

France.
