SIR – The weather forecast is always given in Centigrade, followed by “this is xx in Fahrenheit”.
To help us older people adapt to the forced metrication of our country by our EU rulers, it would be most helpful if the same courtesy was applied, when they are giving lengths or distances.
To be told “...he fell over 93 metres ...”
means nothing to me, but I would have a fair idea in my mind of the scene, if told “…he fell more than 100ft…” Or “...the insect measured a staggering 258mm...” to me is pointless! At best this extra information would be helpful and at the very least it would be respectful to possibly 50 per cent of our citizens who still cannot grasp the finer points of the metric system.
STANLEY D PARR,
Pershore.
