SIR – With reference to the recent story about the difficulties with the proposed Asda store at St Martin’s Gate. Would I be the only person not disappointed if the plans were to fall through?
What Worcester is crying out for is a large Asda with a petrol station somewhere on the outskirts, not in a location that is often already gridlocked with traffic.
Some of your letter writers are puzzled as to why Worcester drivers pay more for petrol than those in other areas. It’s because there is no Asda to compete with Tesco who will bring their prices down to be competitive only if they have to. That’s why Tesco garages in Worcester charge more than Tesco’s in other areas.
I would guess the average driver would save more than £100 a year if Asda had a petrol station locally.
MR A DAVIES,
Ronkswood.
