SIR – I count myself as being very fortunate being born in the Barbourne area of Worcester, which boasts a wealth of many fine Georgian and Victorian buildings reflecting an age when craftsmanship took pride of place.
St George’s Square springs to mind as an area of most handsome Georgian houses flanked by beautifully kept gardens which are a delight to behold in the different seasons.
Standing proudly at the far end of my square is a fine example of a Victorian church which has recently been awarded a lottery grant towards the repair of various dilapidations.
Running through the Barbourne area is the main A38 trunk road to the north of the city which has recently been refurbished for the benefit of the huge number of vehicles.
Sadly, in stark contrast, many pavements in the busy residential area have been sadly neglected over a long period of time posing a threat to the many elderly residents in the area including myself.
It is to be hoped that this sorry state of affairs will soon be rectified.
CONSTANCE BOWCOTT,
Worcester.
