SIR – Having received the bus rapid transport consultation report I was not surprised that despite opinion the council intend to proceed. It must be said that asking bus users if a bus lane is a good idea is rather like asking turkeys if they would like to ban Christmas. Mind you, it helps the published in-favour figures. The most interesting figures appear on the last page of the report where, having said that reducing congestion is one of the reasons behind this project, the traffic survey shows average speeds ranging from 25.2mph to 36mph.

Perhaps the aim is to make Newtown Road an extension of the M5? It feels like it some days. A perfect example of the lunatics taking over the asylum.
