SIR – Referring to George Cowley’s letter (August 11), will he still be able to write letters to newspapers if he has not got a telephone?

If I would have been him I would have changed my telephone provider. I pay £17.50 a month, that covers line rental and local and national calls.

That must be cheaper than writing paper, envelopes and stamps.

Anyway a telephone is always nice to have in case of emergencies.

JOHN NORWOOD,

Kidderminster.
