Sir – Robin Walker (August 4) ‘Costs can be saved by sharing services’ appears to be rattled by my pointing to his inexperience.
His defence of the Conservatives on the city council is admirable. He never utters a word of criticism over their move to a fortnightly bin collection, or their failed secret talks with Malvern Hills council. Serving the public means speaking up for ordinary people not protecting councillors.
But I’m glad he is now considering shared services as a way of reducing costs. Had he been in Worcester long enough, he would know of my long-held view that a joint waste authority responsible for collection and disposal of household rubbish is the way forward.
Perhaps now he has followed my line on this, he will support my call for equal treatment to all householders in the county when it comes to bin collections. Does he support the return of the weekly collection of food waste, as I do? Does he support a self-funding kerbside garden waste collection for Worcester, similar to Wychavon and Bromsgrove?
Michael Foster MP,
Worcester.
