SIR – Chris Heaton-Harris MEP put down this question for answer by the European Commission about the Lisbon Treaty: “Would the commission agree with noted British philosophers, Messrs Palin and Cleese, that the treaty has passed on. This treaty is no more. It has ceased to be. It’s expired and gone to meet its maker. The Irish have said no, it should be pushing up the daisies. Its metabolic processes are now history. It’s off the twig. It’s kicked the bucket.

This is an ex-treaty.

“Does the commission accept that there is no public support for further centralisation and will now abandon all attempts of implementing aspects of the Lisbon Treaty?”

Sadly, we know the answer as the EU Parliament voted not to recognise the decision of the Irish people.

Only UKIP and Conservative MEPs voted to recognise their decision and the EU president simply told the Irish they have to think again. So far the commission has not replied; what a surprise.
