SIR - S W Clayton (Peddling myths over post offices', Worcester News, April 23) recycles the same story covered in these same columns a year ago, that "Brussels" is in some way responsible for the closure of UK post offices.
If this were the case, there would be no need for debates in Westminster, and no need for petitions to the Government to do yet another U-turn.
The European Commission is not dictating, nor influencing, any decision to close rural post offices in the UK. This decision is being made by the Royal Mail, in consultation with a government that is increasingly showing its disregard for the needs of rural communities.
If Mr Clayton is still in doubt about this he should check with both. To save him the bother, I have already done so.
PHILIP BUSHILL-MATTHEWS MEP, European Parliament, Brussels.
