SIR - Last Monday, I received letter from my daughter's school saying "for the first time in the school's history, the whole school will be walking to St George's Church to celebrate St George's Day tomorrow at 10am. All are welcome to attend "
The church was packed from front to back, and I was so impressed to see, by a quarter to 10, rows and rows of quiet, calm children, with their teachers, waiting for the mass to begin.
I was moved to tears as the service progressed as I watched the 200 children respond perfectly to the whole service and sing quite complex songs and hymns beautifully. It was a wonderful celebration, encouraging the children to be proud of their patron saint. And, when all the children returned to school, I understand their hall and dining room were all decked out in St George's red and white streamers and flags.
Well done and thank you, St George's Catholic Primary School and St George's Catholic Church, for making St George's Day a positive and memorable day for the children. And well done to all the children, they were a credit to their school.
